WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Walking Dead season eight, episode four.
Last week’s episode saw King Ezekiel (played by Khary Payton) and his troops in danger as they were ambushed by Saviors who opened fire on them.
Picking up from the tense cliffhanger, episode four titled ‘Some Guy’ saw Ezekiel survive the gunfire with just a wounded leg thanks to his subjects leaping on top of him.
However, his Kingdommers weren’t as lucky as they all died and turned into walkers themselves, going after Ezekiel.
Unable to walk properly due to his injury, Ezekiel struggled to move away from the walkers and was soon trapped with a Savior.
Fortunately, Jerry (Cooper Andrews) was at hand to rescue the King and fought off the deranged Savior with an axe.
As they escape the altercation, the pair turn to face the walkers and are ultimately saved by Carol (Melissa McBride) who snuck into the Savior’s compound.
A pack of walkers immediately closed in on the trio in the woods, leaving them completely stuck.
Ezekiel decides to sacrifice himself to save his friends until his trusty sidekick, his pet tiger Shiva, roared into life.
Shiva leapt into the middle of the walkers, allowing the trio to get to safety while she was mauled to death by the undead.
Those watching the AMC series were devastated at the gut-wrenching loss with many taking to Twitter to express their sorrow.
One viewer wrote: “I’m much more upset about #Shiva dying than I am any human character thus far. #TheWalkingDead.”
Another devastated viewer wrote: “Watching Ezekiel loose Shiva just hurt me so much, I’m tired of feeling attacked by this show #thewalkingdead.”
“I am literally in tears right now #heartbroken #thewalkingdead #TWD @TheWalkingDead @AMCTalkingDead,” said a third.
One person exclaimed: “WHY DID THEY HAVE TO KILL SHIVA!!! #TheWalkingDead.”
The Walking Dead continues on AMC on Sunday and will follow a day later on FOX UK. Seasons one to seven are currently available to stream on NOW TV.
