Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Alexandra Burke in doubt for final as she hits back at viewers | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

The singer has expressed her concerns after being the subject of abuse from viewers of the show.

In a conversation with Radio Times, Alexandra, 29, said: “I started the show completely myself – my joy and tears were 100 per cent genuine, however much people say they were fake – but now I’m so self conscious.”

The comments have taken their toll on Alexandra, who feels her future on the show is uncertain.

“I don’t know if I’ll make it to the final; that’s in the public’s hands.

“All I can do is carry on working hard, enjoy my time on that dance floor and fight for my place,” the chart-topper continued.

The X Factor winner has been in the dance-off twice in a row despite winning rave reviews from the Strictly judges with her professional dancing partner Gorka Marquez, 27.

“I have struggled with some of the public’s reaction. I’ve had my fair share of negative press since winning The X Factor nine years ago, but I’ve never experienced anything like this.”

She continued: “Twitter seems to have given people permission to be incredibly hurtful. They don’t seem to realise that I have feelings and get upset.”

Alexandra began rehearsals for the show just a few days after the death of her mother, Melissa Bell.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One.
