With unprecedented access to the inner-workings of the British justice system, Sir Trevor McDonald follows detectives as they embark on the ‘golden hour’ of a murder investigation.

The term ‘golden hour’ is used to describe the initial stages of a murder case because the actions of officers during this time often determines whether of not the killer is caught.

DCI Lisa Theaker explained: “Getting evidence in the golden hour is vital. It’s fresh, it’s not contaminated and it might not be there very long.

“The priority for me is securing evidence as quickly as possible. Where’s my offender?”

An Hour To Catch a Killer puts viewers on the front line as Northumbria Police’s homicide team piece together the horrific murder of Alice Ruggles – a 24-year-old who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend on October 12, 2016.
